Barbara Scarnato is Head of Section for Space Analytics at DNV, where she leads initiatives at the intersection of space data, sustainability, safety, and cross-sector innovation. Her work focuses on translating space capabilities into actionable insights for industries such as maritime, energy, and finance. She is passionate about advancing space safety governance and bridging the gap between space regulation and terrestrial impact. Barbara is also a strong advocate for applying lessons learned from other sectors to promote ethical space governance. She holds a Dr.Sc. degree from ETH Zurich in Switzerland. Her international career includes research roles at NASA and a faculty appointment as Assistant Professor in the Department of Meteorology at the Naval Postgraduate School. She also held a short position at the University of Oslo (UiO) as a visiting research scientist and lecturer. Since 2016, she has been with DNV, applying her expertise in remote sensing to bridge scientific knowledge with practical applications.
